959 was  briefely renumbered to 5055, and was sold to RELX. Both disappear in about mid 2001, when they were retired by UP. I can't find disposition, likely either scrapped or sitting in the yard of a leaser.

Bumping a very old thread to inquire about the fate of the two Union Pacific GP40X's that weren't rebuilt after UP retired them into GP38-2's for CPR with Bloomberg trucks replacing their HT-B trucks.

One of the six was wrecked in 1997 and scrapped (The 956), leaving the 958 and 959 unaccounted for from the data that I have.

There were 23 GP40Xs built in 1977 and 1978. These were 3500 hp forerunners of the GP50. CP never had a 50 series locomotive. Union Pacific got 6, Southern Pacific got 4, Southern got 3 and the ATSF had the other 10. The UP and SP had the HT-B truck while the ATSF and Southern had Blomberg M trucks. Southern's were built with high short hoods. SP's had a L shaped front window. Do you know where CP got these ?

CP is calling these 7 units GP38-2 4520-4526
1 ex Southern GP50
3 ex UP GP40X
1 ex SP GP40X
2 ex Southern GP38
Coming from NRE.
