Veterans Day
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, November 11, 2002 2:22 PM
I would rather not forget why Veterans Day is marked at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year--this was formerly Armistice Day marking the end of World War I. The memory of those events is especially relevant now, and on this occasion when we also honor Veterans, it seems rather insensitive for the President (from reports of his remarks today) to forget those things and to agitate for war.

Didn't know this is a political forum.

Well, sorry, but I got the idea from the "September 11" post on this forum which got a lot of responses. Besides, doesn't this occasion merit a pause for observance, for those who are interested.

Speaking as a veteran myself, I'll just say that I had to go to work today, just like any other day. What should be a very important holiday seems like just another excuse for the post office to take a day off.
