I rode the UP a few years ago when they opened Global 3! Would love to ride the BNSF as well...somehow....someday....

My question is slightly off topic, but I'll ask it anyway: WHO controls the BNSF/UP interlocking at Rochelle? Is it a fully automatic one that operates on a first-come-first-served basis, or is it a manual interlocking under the control of some train dispatcher in Fort Worth or Omaha?

No sweat at all. Yesterday I got off of livetrauns.com and came to trains.com and the DSL was still recieveing trainsmittions from the web site that did not close so I had to close everything.

Question 2-The BNSF line through here used to be the Chicago, Burlington and Quincey which was roughly 10,000 miles long. The UP line used to be the Chicago and North Western which was roughly 10,000 miles long.Who can name the third 10,000 mile railroad that used to run through here which no longer exists without looking it up ?

The Milwaukee Road came south from the CB&Q interchange at Davis Junction which is a fairly short drive north from Rochelle. The Milwaukee Rd then joined the CB&Q main at Flagg and went through the diamond at Rochelle till it got south of town near Stewart Junction, where you can still see the interesting wood CB&Q depot. Following old 51 south you see plenty of towns with old grain elevators at funny angles suggesting rail service (at one of them I found an old Milwaukee Road grain door) and the right of way is quite visible at many spots. I think this is the line that went all the way to Mendota Illinois and in fact you can follow old 51 to Mendota if you like leisurely country driving. The museum at Mendota has a Milwaukee Road combine to honor that railroad.

If you ever find yourself at Rochelle with a litle time to spare, Flagg Jct, Davis Jct, Stewart Jct are all easy drives.

BNSF - I think if you are on Dial-up it will do that, I am on dial-up and sometimes i just get still shots, and every now and then it is streaming.

It was the MILW, using CB&Q/BN trackage.
