Remembering Southern Pacific...

Next year, it'll be ten years since Union Pacific bought out Southern Pacific.
I realize SP was in financial trouble and had been for a long time, and I'm not bitter (as I was) about it not being around anymore, but it sure would be nice to see a couple of SP GP-40s come rolling through pulling their usual stock from that era with an old brown and orange bay window caboose in tow...

Well, I dont know about any GP's left npatched. but a couple of months ago, I watched a train coming up from the Sunset line with a SD-40/45 ( I am not too sure ) unpatched on point. It was 1993 all over again[:D]

I'm sure if you go to any major yard of the former SPRR like Fresno, Colton, Taylor, Yuma, Gila, Tuscon you will probably find many reminders of the SPRR. Heck at the AZ/CA border I found a ATSF girder bridge with the ATSF logo still painted on it . So if you are a ATSF fan go on the I past Needles cross the Colorado river exit immediately when you hit AZ then at the bottom of the ramp hang a left drive to the tracks & you will find it. There is also a water tower there. [:o)][:p][:)]

There's still a good number of D&RGW and SP Geeps working around the Denver area. Even see some Cotton Belt from time to time. A few are patched, but there's a good number that aren't. Of course, they're usually relegated to yard duties, and I'm not sure if you were looking for mainline action, but it still is a nice feeling seeing them run around now and again.
