Chad Thomas:

Definitively, the bridges were built in 1983, and are “officially” identified as Pine Lodge 54-1056 (west bride) and 54-1057 (east bridge) respectively.

I figured the underpass was built when the line was built. I know the overpasses came after that, but when? From looking at photos on various pix sites I have narrowed it down to somewhere between 70' and 76'. That means the picture that got me wondering about it was dated wrong, no big deal. But I am still curious about exactly when they were built.

Thanks for the info guys.

Construction on the Palmdale Cutoff began in April 1966 and was finished in June 1967. The Southern Pacific railroad bridge over Highway 138 was installed when the line was originally constructed. The two highway bridge over the two BNSF single-track mainlines were a latter day placement.

The Palmdale/Colton Cutoff was built in 1967. I'm not sure about the highway 138 bridge.

When were the hwy138 overpasses built? And was the SP underpass built when the cutoff was built?

I came across a photo before they were built and it was dated in the late 70's. Is that right? I thought they were built about the time the Palmdale cutoff was built.
