Possible derailment maybe on the line that carries the CZ that is about the time it would be in that area after leaving Chicago just a guess since the tracks that connceted with the old ATSF were pulled out and elimenated those tracks as a detour route.
Always at war with those that think OTR trucking is EASY.

There are usually two situations that force the CZ to detour over the UP (ex CNW) between Chicago (Western Ave) and Omaha. First. a major derailment on the BNSF between Chicago & Omaha that blocks, or will cause a major delay to the CZ schedule. Also, any major maintenance project that will cause a major delay to the CZ schedule between Chicago and Omaha. The decision to detour the CZ on the UP is also affected by the traffic volume on the UP (Chicago area delays) and if the UP/Metra has a motor that can be used on the lead for the cab signals. When the CZ detours over the UP between Chicago and Omaha, it does not make any passenger stops and the normal passenger stations are served by buses.

I heard on my car radio(AM station) on Monday, April 18, that there was a derailment of several (6?) coal cars at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa on the BNSF line that normally carries the CZ between Chicago and Omaha, NE. I was in my car on US #34 highway when an SUV went around me that was clearly marked BNSF Police. He was eastbound and I'm guessing he was headed to Mt. Pleasant. This was about 10 AM. Also haven't seen or heard any trains on that line for a day now, but should be open soon, I'd think. Wm6

There was a derailment not far from Creston IA sometime yesterday. I know the coal trains, loaded and empty, that we take to Chicago have slowed down temporarily. I've seen the vulture's (clean up crews) at work and I'm sure it is already back in service as I write this.

here is your answer

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - A BNSF Railway coal train derailment near Mount Pleasant on Monday resulted in Amtrak’s California Zephyr being terminated in one direction and being detoured in the other direction. The coal train, the CCDMRTR-8 bound from Cordero in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin to a power station at Ru***ower, Mo., derailed 11 of its 130 cars at 6:35 a.m. Monday on BNSF’s Ottumwa Subdivision, blocking both mainline tracks. There were no injuries and no hazmat concerns.

Amtrak train No. 6 of the 16th, bound from the Emeryville, Calif., in the San Francisco Bay area, to Chicago, was terminated at Ottumwa, Iowa, on Monday, and its passengers bused the last 310 miles to the Windy City, according to spokesmen from both BNSF and Amtrak. The train’s westbound counterpart, No. 5 originating in Chicago, was detoured via Union Pacific from Chicago to Omaha on the former Chicago & North Western “Overland Route” main line. The BNSF tracks were reopened early this morning.[:p][:D][:)]

So far I have not seen it in the last couple of days on the Rochelle cam. [:o)][:D][:)]

If you want to see A/trak look into the Ft. Madison cam between 1000 hours & 1300 hours every day & you will see a EB A/trak Chic bound with the Mississippi river in the backround. [:o)][:D][:p][:)]
