BNSF Expensive Flip-Flop
Posted by K. P. Harrier on Saturday, April 16, 2005 2:23 PM
Near Devore, CA., BNSF tracks follow Cajon Blvd. Several months ago, a new grade crossing signal was partially installed in preparation for the widening of Palm Ave. The grade crossing was for TWO tracks. Apparently, BNSF has now decided to make the grade crossing THREE tracks, and is redoing the grade crossing device positions. The roadway hasn’t even been widened yet. Most railroaders and railfans undoubtedly wi***hey had the money to change their mind AFTER spending some money.

KPH:

California PUC is the only one who can dictate how many tracks through a crossing. Sounds to me like CPUC was late in making a decision. Also, it is not uncommon with crossing upgrades anywhere to place temporary protection while a crossing's configuration "evolves"....
