Quite a reputation to live up to! But as he said before he's got the jacket to prove it.

Carl, you certainly do have a way with words. I hope to get out and railfan in the little garden/park just west of I-290/294 in Elmhurst again soon. Nice little place to watch in the mornings (kinda slow in the afternoons though)

How about stop being so prudish?

Carl I'm glad you, Kathi and her friends had a good time. I guess having people up in the tower with you passed the time away. I'm glad you were able to fasinate Kathi, Nick, and Jason with your awsome humping techniques. lol It seems to me as if they all had a really enjoyable time. I'm sure seeing those three CW Dash 9s heading up that stack train was the highligh of the night. :)

It's great the train was seen and photographed.

Speaking of photo ops, maybe working for a railroad related magazine or video company that films the railroad industry is a possiblity. Just a thought.

Carl, you were the perfect host and we all appreciated your hospitality immensely. (Although I really was a dizzy blonde after descending that spiral staircase!)

Thanks, too, so much for your help in nailing just when that lovely train was going to be in the right place.

And, yes, I did shoot it -- in RAW so our photo studio can make sure it's the best it can be. Fantastic experience all around. Fanning CP near Madison, the trek to Rochelle --and a suburb a little south of there where we actually shot it -- then spending time in the tower with a great friend.

Oh, my goodness, Carl. Watching you play that board like a piano and seeing the cars skim along into their slots was simply too cool. Especially in the evening hours with the lights illuminating the yard.

And, although my job does afford me delightful opportunities to go places and see people I might not otherwise, yesterday was a happy fluke. I've got vacation time to use up before I lose it and I just picked one of the best possible days to take off and fan.

Sometimes the plans you lay are significantly upstaged by the surprises that present themselves.

I agree with Tom! I hope to see the photos soon. That'll make up for not getting to see them firsthand.

Now if I can just catch UP 3300 (united Way paint scheme) when the sun is actually out!

I second that. [;)] [:(] [8D]

But I am sure he does his fair share of work, and work of course comes first.

Had an interesting day yesterday.

It started with a phone call from no less than Kathi Kube, asking about a UP train headed west with three unpatched CNW Dash 9s for power. I located the train on my computer here, and Kathi and her friends made plans to capture it in Rochelle (they were up in central Wisconsin at the time).

At work, I could monitor the train a little more closely. I figure I missed seeing it myself by about three minutes (I did have work to do--and it would have passed by behind me). My last update to Kathi was "it should be on top of you". It was.

Then Kathi and her friends (Nick and Jason) came to visit me. They watched me work for a few hours, showing that it is possible to be safe, discreet, and not a distraction! We talked about many things (and many people), and they got a few pictures.

Oh--you'd rather know about the train? It had three CNW Dash 9s on the point, followed by two UP SD40-2s (they were ex-CNW). The train originated in Global 1, but the three GEs had come from Proviso, where someone not only put them together--they'd come in on two different trains over the past couple of days--but cleaned them up! Kat and company caught the train at the diamond, after which it set out a few cars and the two SD40-2s at Global 3. The train is destined for Oakland, California; it's due to be in North Platte this afternoon. We'll need an update to see whether the train still has this power once it leaves there.
