I was there in April. Afterwards, in preparing the article I'm writing, I've checked the various Cuban sites and bought the Zafra CD-ROM which lists, supposedly, all the steamers still in Cuba.
I don't expect this loco to exist any longer. What I'd like to do is learn more about it's service life, when it ended, its disposition, etc.

There are several Baldwins still currently operating in eastern Cuba with the Central Rafael Freyre near the town of Holguin. However, these Baldwins are seven 2-8-0s. However with 400 steam locos still chugging on one island, the Baldwin you are describing may very well still be in operation. The September 2000 issue of TRAINS goes in-depth into the Central Rafael Freyre. Sorry I couldn't locate your specific Baldwin.

Negative No. 6193, Baldwin 2-6-6-2 Mallet built in 1917.
Built as road number 18 for Manati Sugar Company.

Anybody know about this loco? I have builder's photo and specs. I want to know about it's life, serial number, builders number, etc.
Also, was it a single-piece or articulated Mallet?
