Railfan Killed by BNSF Train in Arizona

A railfan on BNSF property shot photographs of an eastward train on Main 2 near East Peach Springs, AZ, and was killed by a westbound train travelling on Main 1 at 07:35 Friday, Apr08. This is double track ABS territory on the Seligman Subdivision which averages about 80 trains per day.

The train was delayed about five hours for investigation, clean up and to provide a relief crew from Needles, CA (the original crew was granted trauma relief). The railway is in no manner responsible for this tragedy and the accident was classified as killing a tresspasser. - Dave Bernstein courtesy Ron R

UP Railroad employee fatally injured in Riverdale, Utah train accident

A 38-year-old Union Pacific Railroad employee was killed Monday after police believe he was run over by a train car.

Police speculate the employee was riding on the car to link it up to a train when he slipped underneath, Detective Nolan Geilmann said.

The victim's name has not been released pending notification of relatives.

Police were notified about 03:50 Monday of the accident in rail yards about 30 miles north of Salt Lake City.

Both the Riverdale police and Union Pacific are investigating the accident. - The Associated Press, KSL-TV5, Salt Lake City, UT, courtesy Larry W. Grant

Very tragic!

Years back as a teen I thought railway officials were overreacting to trespassers on property. And this is during the time when railfans here in the southeast were "tolerated" in some yards as long as they behaved.

But since then I've read of so many stories of dead or injured railfans that I fully agree that tough measures have to be taken, especially for the fans that actually want to be "knuckle headed" about trespassing.
