3300 UP Engine naming
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, April 10, 2005 7:27 PM
New here I am one to read and learn instead of posting. I am also new to hobby of Trains. Actually if it wasn't for my 5 year old son I would be just one to sit and wi***hat train would hurry up and pass. Today at our new favorite train watching spot one of the trains we seen was an Union Pacific #3300 in Freedom color. I am sure those that are more knowledgable of this hobby than me knows it as the United Way Train. This I learned by trying to find out more on it. The difference was there were no United way markings but was marked as Lincoln Union, instead. Just found this interesting. And as others know how murphys law works I had used up my film up on other trains. It was the 2nd Engine in a 3 Unit train also. Well as the weather get nicer will be enjoying this new hobby with my son looking for new places and rails to do this.

Like I said I am new, so when I seen this trian I was a little surprised so when I got home I wanted to find out more on it and seen some pics. Every pic I seen had the United way banner on it and the train I seen had Lincoln Pacific instead. But everything else looked the same. So it was exciting to see and also be able to learn that most have seen it as the United way UP. Being a newbie to this compared to others on here. Just thought I would post on it mabey get some responses. Also when I seen it was the 2nd unit of 3. I read Train Mag every month and some of the lingo will take a learning curve for me. Mabey some suggestions on a good railroad 101 type book I can get to better my knowledge. I tend to enjoy the frieght trains more so than the passenger trains in my area. But the biggest thrill I get out of it is I got started in railfanning as a result of my 5yo son and his passion for trains. So I always have wiling to go with me and learn what I missed growing up myself.

In reply to fuzzy, When I seen this train it was also pulling all Herzog cars. so it must be same train. Like I said I didnt see the United Way banner mabey its something they change. It definately had Lincoln Pacific. Mabey this is something they put on for my area(Illinois). Thanks all for insight

Speaking of UPs cool color combinations does anyone know or have seen if the 2 SD70ms painted for the Olympic torch trains have been painted yellow yet. Last time I saw them was 5/03 and 7/03 2001 and 2002 I think.

Thanks
Dave
