Boy, I'm suprised to see this thread dragged back up! Thanks again guys for the compliments. And Eric, especially thanks to you for the info on the engine.

Chad, I took the photos from the toll Bridge. We parked there in the parking lot and walked down the hill a little ways.

I see they are building the other Interstate 680 bridge. If I remember correctly the Amtrak of CA locomotive on it is an 8-32BHW.

Noah: thanks for sharing your photrography talents with us. You don't have to apologize for the Union Pacific local that got away from you at Martinez, that's a good shot.

Noah,
Thanks for shareing your trip with us.

Where did you take the Martinez bridge shots from ? The toll plaza, or were you able to walk out on the 680 bridge?

And I belive the Amtrak engine was one of the P32-8Ws. The ones they used to call the pepsi cans because of there original paint job. I have pictures of the 501 on its first revenue voyage on the Coast line.

Jay, I didn't put it down as I didn't know what it was. There was another full length Amtrak heading the other way, I bet that one was the California Zephyr(or however you spell it). And I will try sending a few to Bergie, when I get the time.

Michael, I kind of thought that it was rare, as on the website they only said they were running one run of the Redwood train each day during the summer. But, yet they ran two Beach trains, and an extra trip up into the redwoods after the one I went on. We didn't have time for everything though. Hopefully next time we can go to the Beach train, We get to CA Every two years or so.

Thanks to all of the rest of you for the good words, I'm glad you liked it. I just still wi***he weather had cooperated a little better than it did. But, next time will be summer, and hopefully it will be better then.

Thanks again to all,
Noah

Hi Noah,

Great job. You were lucky to get as good weather as you did. We've had a pretty wet year here.

I'm glad you got to visit Roaring Camp! It's about five minutes from my house, and my in-laws gave me a pass, so my son and I are there about every two weeks or so.

Also, you were lucky to see the Beach Train (as the locals call the Santa Cruz and Big Trees RR): it normally runs only from May to Labor Day, but what you saw was one of the few extras they put on for spring break.

Let me know next time you're in the area.

Noah-

Good work. When I think I think of all the spring breakers (OK, a little older than you) wasting away their spring break in places like Cancun and Panama City, it is nice to see someone doing something really worth while.

Just kidding. Looks like you had a great trip and having your parents help you get to hot spots has to be a plus. You didn't identify the Amtrak train with the BN green on the point, but my guess is it was the Coast Starlight. It appears to have two lounge cars and I think the forward car would be the Pacific Parlour Car. Probably some story behind the engine consist. For sure, that wasn't an everyday event. Or maybe it is. Someone will tell us.

Try sending that to Bergie. It is about time for a change of pace for the Picture of the Day.

California Railfanning(A trip report, with photos)

Well, It took me a while, but I finally got the fruits of my labor up on the WWW. My Family took a trip to San Fran Ca, in Mid March for my Spring break, and I got a chance to do some railfanning, although I have alot of places I want to go next time. But, here's the link, and warning for those with a 56K connection(like me), there are alot of photos on the page, and, even though they are thumbnails, they may take a while to load.

Please, let me know what you think(or if you find a defective link, or can identify something)
