Odd Car Lettering
Posted by csxengineer98 on Sunday, April 10, 2005 4:58 AM
well....today as i was going to my car after work...a train came down the main..not a big deal in itself...and i normly dont give them a second glance after the power goes by...but tonight i did..and saw something that struck me as odd..... it had a block of what looked like brand new double stack cars...that where a ligh blue in color... but then when i looked at the numbers....it was painted in white in english DBLSTK with a number in the 8100's...but right below that it was what looks like arabic lettering ...and evey car marking was in enlish and what looks like arabic.....
anyone have any imput? cars off to the national railroad of Iraq?...

Seems like our man in Iraq has either been busy or won't comment on it. Certainly is a possibility.

I did hear tell of Iraq ordering a load of container flats,, but I think theese are being built in Poland.
There are other Arabic countries, perhaps they're for one of them
Generally a lurker by nature

Anyway, I have no idea where the observed cars are destined, but not to Iraq. However, the IRR is taking delivery of 120 intermodal flats from Poland, via water to Tartous, Syria, then rail to the interchange point at Rabiyah, Iraq. 20 or so are already incountry and down to Mosul. they where heading east at the time..and they where all empty.... now dont take it as gosple that it was in arabic..but it deffenlty wasnt english....it could have been some other laugange that uses alot of sqiggly lines for charators....but evey marking on the car was in english and this other language in question... i did an AAR reporting mark surch..but nothing in the north american regester...so im thinking they are for export.... just tossing a line out thier to see if anyone had any clue... i just found it odd that it had both english and another laguage markings.....

Very odd indeed..... When I read the post I thought: " Maersk cars?" but you never know, they could be for another country or something.

BTW: Mark, do you know what the track gauge is over there?
