Mr. Hemphill's rather upsetting habit of backing his opinion up with researched fact is also greatly missed. It is nice to know that it's OK to love one's avocation but be fully aware of the pitfalls that go with it. It's really nice to know that there is an accomplished writer out there who absolutely, positively hates writing... gives hope to us rank amateurs. My prayers are with him and "his" railroad. Even my wife laughed at that one. Gabe Reply MP173 Member sinceMay 2004 From: Valparaiso, In 5,918 posts Posted by MP173 on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 1:17 PM I am going to miss Mark. Due to personal issues in my life, I pretty much put Trains Magazine on the shelf from 2000 thru about June 2004. The magazines arrived, but werent really read. So, then I discover that he is a darned good editor (in addition to writer and photographer), then he leaves Trains. When he shows up here on this forum almost full time, it is even better, then he runs off again! Mark, if you read this....thanks for everything you did. I hope you bring the same passion and attention to detail to your railroad. About when you get that cleared up, Hunter Harrison will be ready for retirement and you can take over CN and we can have a little chat about coal trains stalling on the Valpo hill, or even better.... You can lead a company called Milwaukee Montana Road which will raise money to lay new track to help the Montana wheat farmers! But, I will need assurances the ROE will exceed the cost of capital by a healthy margin. Best of luck Mark. ed Reply Join our Community! Our community is FREE to join.
