He was on the left UP tracks. I can't imagine anyone doing that at our watch site - or for that matter, most other places. Have there been any instances of anyone getting injured from stupidity at the Rochelle Park? There are regular paths that you can see. Back when the railfan location was to the right side of the current screen view (about where you frequently see a truck parked of a morning) the railfans would also wander around the diamond trying to get the best camera angle because let's admit it: while the railroad park is wonderful, the camera angles are not ideal and you have to wander around a bit to get the best shots. Two funny stories about the "old days" before the RR park was built. One day a bunch of us fans were sitting there (they had picnic tables, and garbage cans, and someone had planted tulips and daffodils as I recall) when a local neighbor lady walked over and asked for help. She had driven her car off a ledge at the edge of her drive way and the entire passenger side, front wheel, was hanging in midair with the car suspended in the center. So a group of us stood there, grunted and picked the car up and moved it sideways. Fortunately it was a car and not an SUV! One day I was standing in the vicinity of the control box just west of the diamond. From under the box hopped someone's pet rabbit -- a black and white spotted bunny, clearly not a "native" species, and extremely tame. I was hopeing to get a close up of the rabbit with a C&NW engine in the background but would have had to lie flat on the ground to do so, and it was covered in broken glass. Also in back of the camera that you cannot see both RRs tracks are easily accessable as their is grade crossing. Also, if you watch long enough you will see people usually every day coming out or going in to the grove of trees across the BNSF tracks & they re crossing over both RRs tracks on there way to the street of from the street that borders the S/side of the tracks. When I was their to get head on shots I to accessed the tracks. I have always wondered if they have anyone that specifically patrols the area for "citizens" going out on the tracks? Some "angel" to watch over the "fools"?
