Under absolutly NO CONDITION should you give up a credit card number of any kind, shape or fashion to these persons. They are often called the wolves, sharks, barracudas, mad dogs and wild animals of American Commerce. Locomutt is right on the money of what you need to do. If you mistakenly do give up your number, report it immediatly to your credit card company. They have departments that deal with these people. Keep the faith folks and remember our friend Mark who goes in harms way every day, May he come home safely. Not sure the Police need to be notified. I believe Kalmbach would be the ones to prosecute that "company." Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! I also thought it was too expensive. If anything, PLEASE do not do business with this particular company. I myself have tried to get hold of this company in the past several years, and all I ever got was a BIG RUN AROUND. I will NOT do business with that company, and if I have ruffled anybody's feathers, I apologize. I just don't want to see anyone get taken by this company. Reply Anonymous Member sinceApril 2003 305,205 posts Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 9:40 PM If it came through the US Mail and it is using the mail service to conduct illegal business, then it is a reportable offense to the Mail Service. FROM THE USPS.gov Website... "If evidence of a postal-related violation exists, Postal Inspectors may seek prosecutive or administrative action against a violator; however, if money is lost to a fraudulent scheme conducted through the mail, Inspectors do not have the authority to ensure you are refunded your loss and cannot require that products, services or advertisements, on the Internet or elsewhere, be altered. Postal Inspectors base their investigations of mail fraud on the number, pattern and substance of complaints received from the public. The Postal Inspection Service is interested in your concerns and will carefully review the information you provide. If you feel you've been victimized in a mail fraud scheme that in any way involves the U.S. Mail, submit a Mail Fraud Complaint Form to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service." In other words, any of us who receive such transactions in the mail, should report it. Kalmbach should also be informed. Thanks for the notification. Kalmbach has been notifed. I received a "notification" from the same outfit regarding my Trains subscription. I wonder where they got the list of subscribers?!? Reply tree68 Member sinceDecember 2001 From: Northern New York 24,888 posts Posted by tree68 on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 7:54 AM Don't know if Kalmbach sells their lists, and if they do, I have no doubt that they would do so with a certain level of care. However, these rascals would gladly pose as legitimate businessmen long enough to acquire something like that. And there are lists floating around out there from who knows where as well. Ever order a RR keepsake from one of those "special issue" places? I get fire related stuff from them on a regular basis... Paying too much for a magazine subscription is mainly a case of buyer beware - no fraud there. It's been suggested your credit card number may find its way into unscrupulous hands, though, and that would constitute a crime. Reply Anonymous Member sinceApril 2003 305,205 posts Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 2:00 PM The Circulation Department at Kalmbach Publishing Co. is well aware of this company. What they and a handful of other companies around the country are doing is illegal. This problem has also plagued other publishing companies for years, including much larger publishers such as Time, Inc. Despite our best continuing efforts, we and other publishers have been unable to stop the problem. If you receive a renewal notice from anyone other than Trains magazine or Kalmbach, do not respond. The return address on all Kalmbach renewal notices is Milwaukee, Wisconsin (they are processed for us by the bank we deal with directly). You can contact our Customer Service department at 1-800-533-6644 if you have any concerns or questions. Or e-mail them directly at customerservice@trains.com.
