I enjoyed seeing this engine several times at Galesburg Railroad Days including a memorable excursion down to Yates City. My friend and I tried to pace the train back to Galesburg. I was doing 65 mph (on country roads marked for considerably less for a speed limit) and I could not keep up. The Galesburg to Peoria branch is not a 65 mph line but it was that day! This engine even looks fast standing still -- something about the high boiler and those air tanks up above. The whistle surely has to be among the best there is on any excursion steam. The paint is so black black that it is rather difficult to get a good photo of the engine.
I remember seeing it early that morning and thinking "oh no some SOB stole the builder's plates!" but the crew came up with them -- they removed them each night and stored them safely. So long 1522 - sure wish I could be at that last excursion

I got to see 1522 in Texas last year and it was AWESOME! I have some nice pictures of it and the brand new BNSF passenger cars. I took my wife to see it and she was impressed.

Hey UPTRAIN, I just took advantage of Pentrex's email specials and the 1522 was one of the vids I ordered. I will watch it sometime in the near future. I lived in SW Missouri until I moved to North Little Rock and the Frisco was my favorite RR. How could it not be since my mother worked there for over 30 years. I never got to see 1522 run but I volunteered as a car host for Cotton Belt 819 and if the 1522 ran as well it did very good. Always enjoy email from rr ers and railfans. Be safe and take care.
