Cheyenne 1982[?]

The tender is not shown clearly enough to discern a coal pile or oil bunker, which would help in the date of the photo.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away? It has to date near the time of my origin (1980). As for the where, I'm at a loss. The building sort of poking around the tree in the back ground has to be some dead give away that I'm not getting.

It was burning coal when this picture was taken, its sister in steam was numbered 8444 because 844 was a GP30. This photo was taken somewhere out west, the event was a big deal.

Chris,

You are certainly right about that structure behind the tree, if it was not behind the tree, that structure would be a dead give-away to where this photo was taken. Some other steamers were at this place for an event that again was a big deal.

Absolutely the correct answer! Willy2 is the winner of this game!

This was going to be my next hint:

Chad,

You should have spoken-up. Although the year would have been wrong, the location would have been right-on.

Jim,
In front of the loco, and above the automobiles, there is a big area of black. Do you remember what that is ?
