This is interesting. I didn't know about this little deal CSX had going on leasing out certain lines, and this has been around for a year?? I really need to keep up on information like this. I was suprised to learn that this deal expands from Philadelphia (which is were I reside) all the way to the Grafton area on CSX's Mount. Sub. Thats a good distance.
LORD HELP US ALL TO BE ORIGINAL AND NOT CRISPY!!! please? Sarah J.M. Warner conductor CSX

This is a tactic CSX has been using for several years.

Lease the operation of their properties to 'short lines' while maintaining ownership.

If you follow the money trail it will end back at 500 Water St.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Yes it's cheaper for CSX to "lease" the line, that way a shortline takes care of the power, maintenance and crews for that area, then all CSX does is interchange and get the long haul.

The next line they are looking to lease will be Raleigh, through Hamlet to Columbia SC. (ex-SAL). You can say you saw it here first.
