Do you folks know about RFD and the train specials ?...
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 25, 2005 1:34 AM
For those of you that might be interested, there's a channel called RFD that shows train specials at least a couple of times a week. The shows usually come on about three times a day and run about an hour. Sometimes they'll be about steam engines, sometimes about modern diesels and sometimes about Lionel layouts. Down here where I'm at in south Texas it's channel 379. One of my buddies had it and didn't even know it until he sat down and did a channel search. Not all cable companies offer it, but you might try contacting your cable provider and asking. Just thought I'd mention it...

Sounds like that channel is part of the Direct TV basic package. Is that correct? [:p]

There are several of us on the forums who regularly watch Trains and
Locomotives, Trackside and I Love Trains
on RFD TV. They're all very
good shows. Basically, I think I Love Trains is geared more towards
the little ones; but sometimes we adults like watching it also.

RFD is on any satellite company, and there are some (I think) cable
companies who have it. But just check with your cable/satellite company.
You can pull up:
http://www.RFDTV.com
and click on their programming link. Anywhere in the Eastern Time zone,
RFD's channel # is, as Joe said, 9409.

RFD is from the early days of mail delivery, when the government
thought people outside of towns should be accorded the same
system for mail,as what people in towns had.

RFD stands for: Rural Free Delivery.

When I saw this thread called RFD, I thought it was about the TV show starring Andy Griffith.

Chad, I don't know if RFDTV's website still has it or not, but they did have a
link on the left side called "Main Frame" that had a description of each and
every show they have on. Of course, you can also pull up the website, and
click the Contact Us link on the left, and email them and they'll be
able to give you all the information you'll want. Hope this helps you.

My dish network DVR is set to record trains and locomotives every tuesday at 4 am then i get around to wastching it later in the week I enjoy it alot. My favorite episode is the tennesee pass episodes. Never seen Trackside and not a fan of I love toy trains. I will have to watch out for trackside.

You guys have to see the show with the 2 passenger trains running side by side being pulled by double heeded Pacifics in Australia. The one train has 2 steamlined Pacifics, if it was'nt painted green it would almost be a dead ringer for a streamlined Pennsylvania K-4. In another part one train stalls on a grade, you have to here and see it getting started, I got chills. Those Australians really know how to run fan trips. If only RFD TV had as many train shows as tractor shows.

I havn't seen "Trackside" on lately, but it is a good 30 minute show and worth catching when it is on. The show listed as "Trains & Locomotives" is actually the series "Machines of Iron." It is a one hour show that comes on RFDTV on Mondays at 5:00 p.m. (central time), 11:00 p.m., and Tuesdays at 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., And Saturday mornings at 8:00 a.m. (these are all repeats of the same episode for that week). I usually catch the Monday 5:00 show, and if it is really good I'll tape it one of the other times.

The 30 minute show "I Love Trains" (sometimes listed as "Great Layouts") is a 30 minute show about O scale train layouts, primarily Lionel and American Flyer. These are fun to watch, especially if you are in to O scale or these two brands of trains. It is also on numerous times, but in the latter half of the week. Check your Dish or DirectTV listing, you will have no trouble finding it.
