Winchester and Potomac in Harper's Ferry WVA

Was in HArper's Ferry last month on vacation. Hadn't been there in years. IN two hours, saw four trains take the old wooden trestle along the Shenandoh that branches off the old B&O main as it exits the tunnel across the river from town. Saw a brochure that identified the tracks on the trestle as being the former Winchester and Potomac. Never heard of it before. Also had never seen a train on those tracks in years. To see 4 in 2 hours was quite an experience. Saw only 1 on the old B&O! Where were those 4 going and what has caused what appears ot be a major shift in traffic? And where did the W&P go?

In all the photos I've seen of the Harpor's Ferry railroad facilities...It sure does look like a place I'd like to visit and never have. I can undersand why people stop there for a visit...Can't help you on your questions but I'm sure you agree it must be a unique place to look at history and railroads...

Yes, Harper's Ferry is always a fun place to visit. If you're there more than 30 minutes, you're bound to see at least one or two trains go through. My question was prompted by the fact that it appears there has been a shift in traffic flows- direction and destinations, from years gone by. I no longer live near there and so am out of touch with the local rail scene. Hoping someone out there can help!
