PULEASE!

This is good!

Sorry guys, but I worked on buses for 15 years. They do provide an essential service in our economy.

My "all time" favorite transit coaches are the GMC "Fishbowl" series. (Same type of bus you see in the movie SPEED. Introduced in 1959, these buses ran for years and are built tough! They're still running in Canada! They broke down less frequently than their replacements, the GMC RTS series.

My favorite "long distance" bus is the MCI MC-9. Also a well built coach. MCI and Eagle were dominant in the U.S.A for so many years. Now Europeon coaches are becoming the preferred choice for many charter bus companies. (sigh!) For those of you old enough to remember the 1970s, Greyhound preferred MCI coaches while Trailways used Eagles.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of bus fans out there! There seem to be just as many bus forums as train forums.

I'm primarily a model railroader/railfan but to me I like ALL transportation modes and enjoy having model samples of the non-railroad stuff.

Be flexible and do a little exploring of other transportation modes. LIke railroads they all have their unique problems too.

"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"

Hey Dumbkirk. Leave the Bussies alone...

Everyone has a museum of some sort. Next thing you'll be after the guys with boats or farm equipment...

Sheesh, this board has really deteriorated lately...

PA is an equal opportunity Tourist state. It also has train and trolley museums. Now all they need are feeder lines between them all.

There are museums to something or other everywhere. If the federal government continues to run as it has....there probably won't be grants for anything. ( I used to work for the government.......seen them in action ) It isn't any better on the state level in Ohio.......substantially increased taxes on everything and new taxes on things that were never taxed before. I don't know what it's like in Pennsylvania or if you are talking about fed or local money....but if things continue on this trend, it's not that the bus museum will be taking anything away.....because no one will be getting anything.

I don't see a problem here. If funding is your concern, write a check and make a contribution to the rail museum of your choice. If all other museums aside from those dedicated to railroads were closed the battle would be pared down to WHICH one got the most funding and it would never end.

What is really interesting is the only way they tell you to reach the museum is bv private car! Doesn't Hershey, PA, have a local bus system? I think you can get to Hershey by intercity bus. Hershey used to have quite an extensive streetcar system at one time, with some cars sort of duplicates of the Boston ype 5's but with padded, not wooden, seats. It also had at least one interurban line.

I'm a transit fan: buses, streetcars, interurbans

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

Hey man, what have got against buses? I'm a big fan of a lot of things, like back-country skiing, bluegrass music, the Denver Broncos, and NHL hockey.

So what if there's bus fans and a bus museum? Would it hurt the rail industry any more than a tiddlywinks museum? To each, their own.

I'm also a big fan of the Fishbowl GMCs.

Hey Chad,

Do you know if they still charge $0.25 for a ride? I used to ride them daily when I lived in West LA in the late 80's and early 90's. I could get from home to UCLA, or to LAX, for twenty-five cents...what a deal. There was one driver named Wally who used to serenade the riders over the audio system...

Everyone had different intrests aome people might like busses, i personally like Trains, Team Roping, Rodeo in general, Fishing, ATV Riding, and The Denver Broncos. There anre many things of interest and they are entitled to be intrested in it without you having to be harassed by you there Dunkirk.

As a child,I rode fishbowl and old look busses in Long Beach,CA. I sort of like fishbowls. They are almost extinct.
My favorite over the road bus was the Greyhound Senicrusier. These were the busses with the high level seating.Sitting in the front row was vaugely similer to riding in a dome car.I have several friends who are bus fans and I rode one to Tehachapi on a bus fantrip.

....And going back further thinking of the old Greyhound units....massive, ruggedly built, front engine vehicles with vertical cylinders near the headlights...possibly shock absorbers....roof racks for installing and retaining luggage....and one or 2 spare tires mounted vertical on the back of the body....and 3 or 4 round rods running the length of the windows...guess for protection of some kind...
Anyone know who was the manufacture of these units....They ran in the 30's.

espeefoamer....Thanks, that identifies it for me....know which one they are talking about now....
Item: Arriving in Pittsburgh to catch the train to Johnstown {about 1957}, we were to catch the Aerotrain and would you know it was the one day it was out of service in the month for service....so we didn't get to ride it....and that was the last chance to do so...What a disappointment.

I would not lose any sleep over this. Alot of crossover traffic occurs between attractions, especially in relation to families rather than die hard fans.If you take away the hyperbole, they complement one another inasmuch as they are both devoted to transportation history. Alot of cooperative ventures such as marketing, etc occur between museums. Is the glass really half empty or half full?

Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.

Not totally 'big' bus fan,but that's how CW & I get around here.
I think Louisville shipped some of those 'Fishbowl' buses to
Chicago several years ago.

Ralph Kramden (a.k.a. Jackie Gleason) drove a bus. I was in a bar across from Union Station in Chicago many years ago and they had a sign posted on the wall reading "Bus drivers must have exact change."

I like busses. They named some of 'em after my dogs.

Think that's bad, since Delavan, WI was once the home base of many circus units (century before last, I believe), some locals started a clown hall of fame here. Didn't do too well and relocated to Milwaukee or some place. I think the problem was that they limited the thing to circus clowns. [:o)][:o)][:o)][:o)][:D]
