Contact your congressmen and let them know we want Amtrak preserved. Here are some websites that will help find out how.

Absolutely! The squeeky wheel gets the grease. However, it is a numbers game, big time. They (legislators) respond to "numbers," so everyone who gives a darn about passenger railroading in this country should WRITE A LETTER.

Let me give just a wee bit of advice from EXPERIENCE. I worked for a state legislator for six years - representative, then senator. He and his colleagues responded to the written word FIRST - e-mails came distant fourth, after FAX and phone calls. So while it is a good thing to get those e-mails going - keep in mind that the proliferation of that method of communications has become so bothersome - that the legislators simply do not have sufficient staff or time to read everything coming to them that way.

Having said all of that - by all means, communciate your message to your people in Congress AND your state legislature.

Give them a REASON to want to support you. Let them know that we NEED a national transportation plan that includes passenger rail transportation and it must be MODERN - RELIABLE - SAFE and REASONABLE at the cash box. After all, what policy do we have right now that will kick in when gasoline goes off the charts and we can no longer afford to operate our cars?!

Thanks!

A great alternative to Greyhound and traffic jams.

Amtrak will remain "inconvenient" for many others as long as it is not allowed to expand and serve more cities.

"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"
