Where Am I (Junction)?
Posted by MP57313 on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 1:10 AM
I am at a junction in a river valley; the station building at the site is over 100 years old. The original rail line was one of the earliest built in the country. One leg of the wye was rebuilt a few years ago (on a wider radius) for commuter train service.

Have no idea actually. Because it is a historic place over 100 years old I would guess somewhere on the present CSX. [:o)]

Sounds like Point of Rocks to me, too!

Well I'm a left coat man myself, so I can't call this one. But I would say Point of Rocks sounds like a good guess.

I'm here!!! Sorry for the delay in getting back to this. I'm not on-line all the time.

RDG-Anthracite gets it and obviously this was too easy. Point of Rocks is on the original Baltimore & Ohio (so spbed you were also correct). The station, built in 1890, is no longer open to the public, but it is still used by CSX maintenance crews. There are adjacent platforms for Marc trains; the Capitol Ltd crawls right through without stopping.
Frederick Jct. is just up the line a ways.

This is one of my favorite sites to visit when I am back east for work. There are some discarded CPL (color position light) signals dumped by the maintenance sheds; the lineside signals have all been replaced in this area.

The Point of Rocks tunnel is about 1/2 mile to the west.

Side note: There is a house at the west end of town where the owner has indicated flood levels on the outside wall of his house. The dates listed are in '72, '85 and '96, with the levels coming up to the 1st floor windows. He must really like living there!! (And he is right near the tracks too!!)
