Turboliner Paintschemes
Posted by Supermicha on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 3:30 PM
In my Contemporary Diesel Spotters Guide i just found a b/w image of a french built ANF Turbotrain with Amtrak PHASE 3! Paintscheme. This seems to be a very rare scheme on this trains, because i didnĀ“t found any images with this scheme in the internet. Does anybody have color images of this train (it was unit number 67) with Phase 3 paint? I would like to model it with this Paintscheme, and for that colored images would be better.

Thanks

Michael,

Sorry, I just checked my photos and they are in Phase II. The main difference between Phases II and III on these cars appears to be the width of the white stripe. The postions of the red and blue stripes seem to be the same from my photos, at least.

The number you quote, 67, is the number of the power car on that end of the set. Someone might know the numbers of the other cars, because these cars kept the European buffers and screw couplers inside the set, and tended to stay as a fixed set.

The arrangement of colours is the same, red above the blue, so you might be able to use Phase II photos with the black and white Phase III photo to paint a model.

The book does give a clue as to why the picture is rare - the French Built trains were rebuilt to look like the Rohr built cars, and most did not get Phase III colours with the French cab.
