Where are the Superliner 1´s
Posted by Supermicha on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 8:40 AM
When i watch images from Superliners i realized at the trucks that there are only Superliner 2 cars in the consists. Are all older Superliner 1 cars gone or rebuilt? What happened to them?

Thanks,

As far as I know they are still inb service all of the old smoking cars were converted out of teh superliner 1's coach and baggage cars.
Always at war with those that think OTR trucking is EASY.

yeah, for the most part they are all in service, except for the wrecked ones. The Superliner 2's are now starting to get run down as well, so hopefully congress will be able to give them some money in the budget to fix those. (note I said congress and not Bush).

Yes, virtually all of the Superliner 1's are still in service (although the may be sporting the Phase 4 or 5 paint schemes). Are you sure you might not be seeing Superliner 1's in the pictures you're looking at? The key distinctive feature (regardless of paint scheme) is the passenger car's trucks. The ones with the large silver U-shaped sideframes on the trucks are 2's... the others are the original Superliners.

It is also interesting to note that the US States-series Superliner 2 sleeping cars (such as the "Illinois", "Arizona", etc.) are having the car names removed from them as they are being repainted from the Phase 4 paint scheme to the Phase 5 (Acela-like) paint scheme.
