For those who may be interested, the Chicago Tribune's "Transportation" section today had a neat article on the 15 foot high - four faced illuminated clock that was at the center of the Buffalo station concourse until 1979 and all about its travels since then. Seems the City of Buffalo has now purchased the station and also re-purchased the clock (which had been refurbished) and brought it back to Buffalo for installation in the old station again. Side note...they transported the 15 foot clock back to Buffalo on a flat bed truck...would have been nice to have it transported on a flat car making some sort of big splash about rail transport, and they could have off-loaded it right on the platorm in front of the station...would have been a nice touch!

There was also the Detroil Limited, all sleeper, not generally picking up Buffalo passengers, and the Century and the Commodore Vanterbilt, also not generally picking up Buffalo passengers. Rode the Woverine many times. Power to Harmon was generally a Hudson or a Niagra during that period.

Looking at the July 1946 issue of the Official Guide:
#8 - Wolverine - Lv Buffalo 12:29am, Ar NY 8:35am
#64 - Water Level Limited - Lv Buffalo 1:54am, Ar NY 10:00am
#24 - Knickerbocker - Lv Buffalo 2:49am, Ar NY 10:30am
There were about 26 Buffalo-New York trains running on the NYC during this month, in addition to local service. The three trains mentioned above fit closest to your timeframe request.

Can anyone provide info/name/number of passenger trains leaving Buffalo, late at night and arriving NYC, mid-morning between 1942-48. My wife who as a child ,rode this route often, said steam power was used.
Also Buffalo station Agent/Master who lived on Saunders Road ,in Kenmore ,during same era. He had large train layout in basement.
