Additional Info to my first post regarding Sauk Rapids derail. My lady friend(girl friend) was at our summer home when it happened. She called me at my office and I asked her to go down and get some photos of it, being very careful not to tresspass on railroad property. She drove over to the stopped train and was in the VFW parking lot. The local yokel cops would NOT let her take photos. She was no where near the rr right of way. Barney Fife told her she could not take photos unless she worked for the newspaper. She decided not to make an issue of it.
On the other hand, had it been me, I think I would have let them arrest me. And then see what happened. I am a retired cop and as far as I am concerned, unless it was a CRIME scene, the photos should have been allowed.
What do you think?

Sounds like another coal train derail on the Staples, MN subdivision. Both main tracks taken out. I get a fair amount of coal trains going right by my office window which is about 30 feet from the Wayzata MN sub. I don't know their speed but some seem to be moving fairly fast. I am starting to get nervous.

I think it would be interesting to see some sort of derailment ONCE in my life happen. As long as no one was in danger (If it was the last car of a train), and i was far away.
I donno, it sounds weird, but i makes you wonder, can you see like the alxe break, the truck drop, drag, rip up 3 mill dollars worth of tracks then tha car roll over? Then see hundereds of railworkers swarm thae area?
I know im weird, did anyone ever wittness one?

A coal train derailed in Sauk Rapids, MN which is across the Mississippi River from St Cloud. According to the newspaper, a wheel broke on one of the last cars of the consist. One of the rails was broken approximately 200 feet East of my summer home on the Mississippi. It's a great location to watch trains although they are usually going like hell when they pass. A derail happened several years ago in the same location. That time it was a new car consist.
