Just had my best laugh all week... thanks much in part to kevinstheRRman's rant - classic!

trainluver1... dude, you have to grow a thicker skin if you're gonna hang around rails for any time at all. Most of us are known for being opinionated, much like yourself. SO we have DIFFERENT opinions, big deal - get over it.

This is my first post on this forum, and will perhaps be my last... just had to share my joy after reading this thread!

Hope that no one mentions the Pere Marquette or the PRR's Spirit of St. Louis or St. Louisan. Too religious!

Actually I believe in God but not religion. I believe science is a mortal understanding of "magic" of the universe designed by God (Ironically the church burned folk for it).

The Big Bang was what God did maybe or at least set up the universe to do it and stood back to see what would happen.

I don't believe too much that God can always interfere with our existance (we always pray and some get ticked off when it gets unanswered) because it would be contrary to the gift of free will.

Religion is a way to control the masses. Nobody wants to go to Hell so the people can be easily manipulated by a religious figure (whatever religion) to do what the Kings or Lords want. The true worship of God does not require churches and cathedrals of ornate materials or any sacrifices of food forexample. I believe to be a kind spirit and do your best to be a good person is what is required at the "Golden Gate".

As far as religion on the forum goes, I like trains better.

I just got one thing to say - THIS IS THE STUPIDEST THREAD I HAVE EVER READ ON TRAINS FORUMS. Everyone on both sides made good points about this argument but the best was that no matter what U believe this is a free country ( even though Bush is trying to take this away from us) the last time I checked and if you want to talk about GOD or Jesus or the big bang than do so Just like I just talked about Bush. (I'm still waiting for the Feds to come knocking on my door). Yes this should be about trains but some of us on here esp the ones who have been members awhile have other stuff that we bring to the forums - If I start to read something that I find out not to like then I STOP reading and move on.
Cool site to visit http://www.trainweb.org/peninsularailfan/index.html - local site, very cool http://crcyc.railfan.net/ - Conrail site, also cool http://www.thedieselshop.us/MPR.html

Naw dude, I have no issues with you, I know you are a nice, albeit outspoken, guy.. And I've seen where you have taken more abuse than you deserved on several ocassions, often times I've sympathized with your plight. (not that it matters)

I just don't have that talent. You took a shot at me with your quip, I returned the favor... *biblical fervor* "An EYE for an EYE!" */ biblical fervor* [:D]

I think what you failed to appreciate was my intended sarcasm in my earlier comment about how religion belongs in religion forums, rather than here.

I actually happen to be on the same side of the fence with you regarding free speech. What I was doing earlier was lampooning the stilted set of opinions that often surface here, trying to rationalize and assert their preferances as to what belongs, and what does not. Often, these sidewalk superintendents who obcess in determining what is fitting for eveyone fail to appreciate that not everyone shares their fringe and varied interests either. As a non christian, I actually do find offense in the flowery "GOD BLESS ONE AND ALL" evangelism that some people feel oblidged to peddle to anyone and everyone around them. But I try to be tolerant, and just not let it bother me...Till that is, they see fit to not return the favor, and start calling me a stinking liberal for making a crack about our president...and that I should take my garbage to a political forum, cause this one IS TRAINS ONLY, yada yada.

Just wait, with all the sincere sentiment expressed by others in this thread about "keeping it just about trains"...come Monday there will be threads titled- "SUPERBOWL!!! Yeeeee Hawww!" -etc despite the fact this is a "trains forum only". They simply don't see it when the shoe is on the other foot.

And it was THAT which I was satirizing with sarcasm. fair enough? [8D]

Well dude, all I can say to that, is you did a good job forgetting, for the situation I alluded to, and the scenario you now recant, have NOTHING in common.

As for your assessment of stupidity, well I strongly suspect there is little I can tell you about that, which you are not already a master of, first hand.

I really don't know why I'm sticking my big nose into this at this point, but I'm going to anyway. (Knowing full well I may get it bitten off!)

Seems to me that the two topics my Granny taught me to avoid were politics and religion. From the looks of this thread she was right. Pretty wise old gal, my Granny. While I have no intention of taking sides here, I do have a couple of observations.

First, this is about trains, guys, even though they are almost a religion for me. I'm not sure that bringing up religion is worthwhile from either side. That being said, though, this is a forum, a place for discussion, and by definition should be open to whatever people want to bring up. Personally, I enjoy the fact that we sometimes get off topic, because frequently these threads grow into far bigger discussions than their original premise would indicate. ( OK, did I straddle the fence well enough to keep my nose intact? )

I'm not trying to pontificate here, guys, I'm only suggesting that there's nothing here worth fighting over.

Now, if there's any of that venison left....

Gentlemen, guys

Railfans ripping at railfans...............so unecessary and uncool.

Let's focus back on trains. You all have a lot to contribute. I'm upset about this Amtrak situation. (Yes, I use it and have enjoyed the service!)

I am now shunting the death train shackles and all assembling it in the yard.

Hopefully I can send it to the wash rack and the overhaul shop to make it a proper train capable of generating non-combustable revenue.

Guys,

Trainluver1 has already apologized. Some of you kept whacking him after his post.

Let's enjoy trains.

Peace and Cheers!

Kevin, guess it helps if you read the Underground Comics version of the story....just dont let the Secret Mouse Service Agents see it, they have a LOW tolerance for with orders to shot to kill on site. Guess I better not talk about Snow White and the Seven Lumberjacks...eh?

Kev, I'll save you a big bloody slice and put it in the fridge at the Coffee House.
