08/11/2023  article nboted in Progressive Railroading (Internet site) linked here @ https://www.progressiverailroading.com/norfolk_southern/news/Norfolk-Southern-to-open-permanent-office-in-East-Palestine--69918

FTA:  "...For the past six months, NS has been leasing space at a local church, which has housed NS employees and contractors working on recovery from the Feb. 3 NS train derailment. Eventually, the Family Assistance Center that NS opened to help East Palestine community members will relocate to the new office.

"We’ve pledged our long-term commitment to East Palestine and this permanent field office is a physical symbol of that pledge," said NS President and CEO Alan Shaw..."

Thought this was pretty interesting,and needed to be noted here,as well. Should be a positive item; vs. some of the 'negatively couched' media reportage (?)

UPDATE : NOTE;

From TRAINS Newswire of 09/21/2023.  linked @ https://www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews/news-wire/white-house-issues-executive-order-on-norfolk-southerns-response-to-east-palestine-ohio-wreck/

Apparenytly, the White House haS ISSUED AN EXECUTIVE ORDER in regards to the on going aftermath of the East Palestine, Oh. wreck on NS.

FTA: (the article notes, in part;)  "...The order requires the Federal Emergency Management Agency to appoint a disaster recovery coordinator by Monday. The coordinator will assess whether there are any unmet needs not covered by NS that would qualify for federal assistance, as well as consider whether a disaster declaration is warranted.

The Environmental Protection Agency was directed to continue to oversee removal of contaminated soil and water, ensure that stream contamination is addressed, and that air and water monitoring continue. The agency must deliver a report within 30 days on the status of environmental monitoring and whether NS continues to comply with federal orders. Subsequent reports will be due every 60 days.

The Health and Human Services Administration must provide the president with a report within 60 days that summarizes the conclusions of public health testing and any health conditions that may be related to the derailment. The agency also must continue to monitor any potential public health consequences of the wreck.

The Department of Transportation must, within 60 days, provide the White House with a report detailing actions it is taking in response to East Palestine, followed by an updated report within 120 days of the date the National Transportation Safety Board releases its final report on the derailment..."

Recent media coverage, [ie:] "... interviews with local 'activist'/citizens; indicated, still 'some' people, were were expriencing 'health issues'.       But seemed to note that Norfolk Southern's community presence was noted, and their kactivities were apperciated (?).

Note: This accident occurred on Feb. 3rd,2023 : for a detail refresher, seenlinked @ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Ohio_train_derailment

Recived from "The Real News:"

The town of East Palestine is still reeling from Norfolk-Southern’s train derailment disaster this February and the “controlled release” of toxic chemicals that occurred in the aftermath. Here at The Real News, we’ve been working to remain in contact with East Palestine families and ensure that their stories are not forgotten. This week, Editor-in-Chief Maximillian Alvarez circled back with the Albright family to discuss their ordeal. The normalcy of the Albrights’ lives was shattered by the train derailment, which brought illness and financial woes into their home that neither Norfolk-Southern nor the federal government are interested in claiming responsibility for.

I'd appreciate some balanced comments on this.
