Lithonia OperatorIs it just that the web makes us more aware of train wrecks now? Or have there always been this many? Seems like every couple of days there's a serious derailment, or worse.
The web magnifies every time a wheel hits the ground. Secondly, virtually every individual that comes across the happening has a still/video camera on their person and the ability to use it for either purpos without having to think about it.
In eras gone by, there was not the ability to picture the happening nor the means to publish the pictures to the world.

I think the web gets a significant part of the "credit." Back in the day, unless the derailment was on the scale of the Missouri Amtrak or Lac Megantic, it got buried on page seven, if it got any coverage at all. Local is another story, of course.
