Don't know why I didn't change browsers in the first place. Other than the old saw "If it doesn't compute, reboot", I'm pretty much lost with the inner workings of the machine!

Hello "Overmod",

I appreciate you taking the time to assist me with my problem. I took the cowards way out and just changed my browser to "Chrome". Haven't had any trouble since the change two days ago.

I am not familiar enough with changing the settings of the machine, I know a little and sometimes a little can get you into big trouble! Therefore I took the easiest route to solve the problem. I switched browsers from "Edge" to "Chrome". I have been using the new browser for two days and have not inccured the problem of getting logged off.

Thank you for taking the time to assist me with this problem.

ps None of my other websites encounter that problem on my "Edge" browser.

Just for the sake of consensus, I think that everything overmod told you was pretty spot-on.

While there is an "obsolete cookie" issue here at this site, it doesn't sound to me like that is your problem......unless you have your system specifically set up to block cookies.

 

Most likely there is a security setting in your browser that is not "playing nice" with the Kalmbach servers.   as we update our browsers from time to time, Kalmbach stays with their "tried and true" software, that has legacy issues.

When modern features that our up to date browsers expect to communicate with are not found on older, legacy systems (think of it like offering a hand shake that the other party refuses) your system  might default into a "failsafe" staus,  refusing to interact in ways that it no longer considers to be "safe".  It's a lot more involved than that, but that is the Weekly Reader version.

Lucky for you, "2 clicks" sounds like a fairly easy work around, compared to other, more indepth solutions that would require significantly more effort  on your part.

 

One thing you could try if you were so inclined, would be to download the high security Tor Browser, and see if your problem goes away. it inparticular will not try to  import any of your legacy settings from your existing browsers that might be causing your problem. So it would be like a new broom, "sweeping clean".

I agree this is probably a browser issue.  You don't say what you're using, but as mentioned, try using another one.  Try Chrome, Edge, etc.

This practically screams "browser" to me -- specifically that the browser is improperly handling the necessary cookies (or that they are misconfigured as loaded), or that you're running in one of the 'privacy' or 'anonymous' modes that deletes session cookies when you exit, or has some kind of security 'issue' with the Kalmbach sign-in security.

The immediate thing is to go to your browser's 'cookies' and selectively delete some of the ones relating to "cs.trains.com" for the various forums.  The next time you log in, the machine will create new cookies with the correct persistent login values, and your problem would then be ended if that were causing the issue.  I don't believe you have to close and restart the browser, or use Ctrl-F5 or whatever to flush browser cache, or reboot the machine, for this change to have effect, but none of those things would 'hurt'.

Don't just go in and delete everything, unless you don't care about other externally-saved passwords or values.

If you have a password manager, be certain that there isn't some entry in there for the Trains magazine sites.  If you have something 'wrong' in there, the Trains system may just be kicking it out when it tries to connect back to the site.  I think this is unlikely, but it shouldn't take long to check.

Have you tried loading a different browser -- say, Opera -- and trying to use it for the Trains.com sites?  You can always remove it if it doesn't help.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried all forms of reboot that I can think of. It occurs everytime  I close a page be it Trains, Classic Trains or MR.

I have looked in "settings" to see if there is any relevant option. None seem to work.

No matter which page or site I close when I click on another article or video I have to relog in again. Thank God for the prepopulating option, it is just two clicks, no retyping!

Are you experiencing this problem through out the site? Or just when trying to access "subscriber only" content?

For example,  shut down your computer....completely off.   Then restart, and come back to this forum....are you already logged in and able to post, or do you have to log in once again?

I have a Dell Pc running windows 10. I log in at the initial prompt. My problem is that everytime I close a page I am logged out. When I go back to open another article I must reintiate the sign in process.

I filed a query with the customer service team about this problem. I was told that it was my computer that was at fault. I have tried to find where I went wrong using the settings page but cannot find a solution to this problem.

If anyone has had this same problem it would be greatly appreciated as to how you solved this issue.

This problem exist over all the Kalmbach websites.
