Thanks Paul.

I am thinking it was a picture credited to Joe McMillan.  I contacted him!

The toll sign was still around in 1986 when I visited the area.  Of course, the rates had been adjusted and simplified over time.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Hello!  Trying to find an early photo of the Ft. Madison, Iowa Santa Fe road/rail bridge toll sign.  The one I am thinking of has appeared in TRAINS photo sections a couple of times.  This was long ago folk!  Sign still showed toll rates for horse-drawn wagons..... Thanks.
