Hi, Many thanks for your reply. I have forwarded your information to Christian Wolmar who is researching the role of the railways in the reoccupation of northern Europe following D Day. It is highly relevent at the moment because I have just read that a Russian supply train carrying fuel for the Russian army invading Ukraine has been attacked and badly damaged by an armed Ukrainian drone.  They are using cheap (if you can call $750k each cheap), armed drones supplied by Turkey which have been very effective. Anyway, thanks for your help. Robert Hope

I looked and looked and couldn't find Col. Itschner's paper.  Even Wanswheel had no luck, and tells me something!

I did find THIS.  Maybe it'll be of some help?  Col. Itschner's mentioned.

Here's the complete title of the Colonel's paper.  (Courtesy of Wanswheel.)

The thing is, everything's not on the Internet.  Not yet anyway.

More from Wanswheel, the paper was published in:

Civil Engineering Magazine Volume 15, No. 9, September 1945.

Try looking for it at these locations:

Try contacting the United States Army Historical & Education Center, which is located at Carlisle Barracks, in Carlisle, PA

Website

USAHEC

650 Soldiers Drive

Carlisle, PA   17013-5021

They are open most days except Federal holidays.

Viewing of documents is by appointment with the archive department. But the website allows for inquiries about what documents are in their possesion.

Can anyone please help me to locate a paper written by WW2 American General Emerson Itschner titled ‘Reconstruction of West(ern) European railroads’? I know that it exists, but I cannot find it on the internet.

Many Thanks for your help. Robert Hope
