While I'll agree that it may have been a railfan (logic leads us in that direction), let's not forget the egotist non-railfan who will be bragging to his friends at the cocktail party about how the sign with his name on it hanging over his mantle came from "some railroad station someplace." Odds are none of them will be railfans, and will think it's cool...

No different than someone making off with a street sign with their name on it.

Railfans are cross section of our society and this covers both the good and the bad. I hope nail this turkey and lock him up for a long time.

There is no such thing as a bad day of railfanning. So many trains, so little time.

Whew! When I saw the subject head, I thought you were complaining about Trains Magazine's competitor, not an individual.

That is AWFUL!! This person is giving the rest of us railfans a very
bad name. Personally, I hope they catch the nincompoop, and
prosecute him BIG TIME.

Despicable.....probably someone who either thinks they can sell it for a profit, or mount it above their fireplace. Its a wonder that people like this can sleep at night....without a guilty conscience to guide them.....Dave Williams http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nsaltoonajohnstown

[:(!][xx(][:(][V][?] Haley Tower www.haleytower.org/ has been hit by theives. Someone unfortunately climbed the fence at Haley Tower & attempted to steal the "TO" (train order) signal which is mounted on the tower. The attempt was unsucessful. However, this person did steal the station sign off the Turner Depot which is located on the grounds. This person built a makeshift platform to reach the sign & carefully removed it, including the mounting brackets. Turner Depot is a 100+ yr old depot that we moved to the grounds several years ago. It was a PRR Depot located in Turner IND.

We believe it to be a railfan, because of the nature of the items stolen & those that someone attempted to steal.

If anyone sees a 1' x 3' sign in PRR colors with the name TURNER please contact the Haley Tower & Technical Society.
