Where the page appeared but was grayed out with the "loading" circle appeared... I wonder of you have a ad blocker or use a Hosts file that has some common ad company URLs in it.

I am seeing more and more web sites that will not finish loading a page if one of the embedded advertiser links does not complete.  A nasty trick that has been available for quite some time, but has seldom been used.  It forces users to turn off ad blockers and to allow ads.  Usually they will present a message somewhere on screen warning that they do not allow ad blockers, but not do that.  Some will even tell you which ad URL to allow through the ad blocker.

For those who were concerned, I finally used an old link for (I think) the February issue and to my amazement, it worked and I got access to the April issue.

In the past, the link never worked after the next issue appeared, although I don't know why that was. Now it seems, as long as your subscription is current you can use any link that had been sent.

A couple of days after I found the old link, my hard copy of the magazine appeared. The time taken for subscription paper copies to arrive in Australia can vary dramatically, some arriving two months after posting.

I used the same browser with the same settings as had failed originally to open the otherwise identical looking link web page. When the original page failed to open, the page appeared "greyed out" with the "loading" circle showing, and you could see that the older link opened the same page with no problems.

The suggestions from Trains came about a week after I requested help and they made no helpful suggestions. They definitely did not send a new message with the correct link, which I had requested.

I tried to open the original link with three different browsers, Edge, Explorer and Chrome and tried a few other tricks that failed.

Now I just hope that the link for the next magazine works as planned.

While you're at it, tell them the new software has plenty of other bugz. The current annoyance is that it won't allow people to log on as a subscriber in the history section.

(Gathering up an understanding of why a big shortline would buy a line and never operate it- trying to help a county surveyor in Kalmbach's backyard figure out how WsDOT is calling something a rail trail without any proof or documentation. Something is really rotten in Madison.)

Say gents, I got an e-mail from Juniatha saying she's having a problem with everything,  especially accessing and posting pictures to the Forum.  It just started recently.  Any ideas?  Anyone else having these problems?

Pictures have to hosted through a 3rd party hosting site so they can be accessed as a link by the Kalmbach software.  Some 3rd party sites don't allow 'hotlinking'.  Kalmbach has never facilitated direct posting from ones own computer of images.

There actually is a  great deal of validity to the thinking "if one person is complaining, the problem is likely on their end".  (especially in terms of the forums).

Here is a worthwhile suggestion. Suggest that they completely uninstall their browser, and reinstall  the latest edition.  Sometimes when you just update an older version it can import old problems  into the new.

The recent problems with the corrupt links in the header of this forum, I looked at them for nearly a week, before doing as above. And on my very first visit here after the proceedure, all the old problems were fixed. So it's worth a try.

It appears that going forward, the only way to get the print edition is the have the digital subscription for $45; and then  the physical mag is an add-on for $5 more. I'll be doing that, even though I don't even want the digi version.

IIRC you're in Australia, so I'm sure the add-on cast will be higher.

To my thought processes - Out of Sight is out of Mind.

Several of the organizations I belong to 'publish' their Newsletters in digital form only.  I may THINK about those publications once or twice a year.  When they published on paper, they would take up their location in the 'library' and get reviewed several times a month.

Going digital is the first step to nowhere.

Where is the link you refer to?

In this part of the world, electronic copies of Trains come via a subscription service called Zinio. I am sent an e-mail with a link to the Zinio website which lasts for a month, and I can reads any of the past issues of Trains up to the latest issue.

In this case, the link partly opens the Zinio website page but it never fully loads.

This is the first time in a number of years that the system hasn't worked.

The quick answer is to not renew the electronic subscription and just keep getting the paper copies. The whole electronic reader system is clumsy and is barely worth the ten extra dollars it costs.

I was having problems a while back with Amazon getting me Trains. I had to play ping pong with Trains Cust Svc (an outside service) and Amazon.

In the end I complained very loudly to Amazon, this eventually fixed the problem (I don't know what the problem was, and didn't find out).

Cannot access link to Electronic Issue of April 2021 Trains
Posted by M636C on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 10:35 PM
I have been unable to link to my electronic issue of Trains Magazine April 2021 issue. The Link page does not fully load, remaining “greyed out” with a blue spinning “loading” circle. This hasn’t happened before in four or so years of electronic subscriptions.
I tried to use the website message service but all my attempts resulted in an "invalid message". I have sent an email to Trains Support.
But has anyone else experienced this sort of problem? As I say, it hasn't happened to me before in some years.
Peter.
