Looking for Train Watching Suggestions Los Angeles (generally north)

I'm just giving this one nudge to see if someone may have an idea or two.  Thank you. 

Your preference to be North and West of LA certainly limits the scope of what is available, most of the busy freight operations are south and east of Union Station.......but there are a  couple possibilities.

The Santa Susana Depot and Santa Susana Tunnel (Corriganville Park) being one option. Being near an active main line, while offering some historic flavor. I have no idea what the present train frequency on this line might be. But the touristy places nearby  claim that  trains still run there.

And The Santa Clarita Historical Society, which sports the historic SP train station where the Frank Sinatra Movie "Suddenly" was filmed. The depot building's current location is not the original, the original location was in Near by Saugus California, just a short skip up Railroad Avenue from the  current location.

Both are fairly close to one another and reasonably close to the Burbank Airport, such that you could likely do both, and still get to your drop off on time.

Of course, California is still in lock down mode, so your experience might be limited to "drive by" You should call ahead if you expect to find either depot building open for business.

The park next to the tunnel, OTOH, should be open regardless.

A buddy of mine and I are meeting in Los Angeles in a couple of weeks to take the Sunset Limited from LA to New Orleans.

We'll arrive early afternoon, and have six hours or so before needing to head to Union Station.

We're renting a car at LAX and dropping off at Burbank.  Looking for a good (and safe) train watching spot north or northwest of LAX.  We're fine driving for 45 minutes or so.
