Too bad that there are no chocolate chip cookies; I would purge them by simply eating them.

Problem just occurred again: I was logged on, and while I was reading two blogs, found that I had been logged off without even being asked if I wanted that to happen.

Thanks to all who responded and explained the situation.

I haven't been able to log out since the last major forum outage and "update".

So I clear cookies and history each time I want to log out, then reload the page.  Seems to work, and I don't worry as I don't have any financial information linked to this account (my subscription is under a different name).

Greetings from Alberta

Flintlock76

Sam, I lost "Firelock76" when I retired and turned in my company lap-top, also lost my e-mail at the same time since I used the company supplied one.  So it goes without saying when I bought a personal lap-top I had to start all over again.  Since "Firelock76" was already "taken" I had to use something else.

I probably could have reused "Firelock" if I called Kambach Customer Service but I decided it wasn't worth the trouble.  Besides, and I didn't mind by the way, "Flintlock" saves me the trouble of explaining what a "Firelock" is!

For those still wondering, here's a nice young man demonstrating the "Manual of Arms" with a firelock.  And you veterans out there thought drill with an M-16 was complicated!

Watched the video you posted of 'Manual of Arms' withthe Firelock; pretty interesting! Wow

My mind immediately jumped to the first time, I was required to preform a manual of arms...YEAH!      Parris Island, 1961...Just before we went to draw our 'bucket issue'... The Drill Instructor had to improvise...Try, a,' Manual of Arms with a Lockerbox' .  I still remember that, eventually, we got pretty proficient; not only with lockerboxes, but M-14s as well... Just for depth.....

Still using a "live" distro of Knoppix that permits cookies to be written to memory only, so they ALL go away automatically when I shut my machine down.  I never physically log-off, but evidently that is handled automatically when I break my connection, because I do have to physically log on each morning when I first try to post each morning...otherwise I can browse with no problem while not yet logged in.

Only if I decide to post do I then need to log in. And I just checked over at the Classic Trains forum, my single log in here  at this forum would allow me to post at the Classic trains forum with  no additional log in needed.

I haven't had the "slow forums" problem since February, when I last used Windows.

This is not intended to sound like a sales blurb for Linux, I'm just sharing my experience for comparison to those who claim the "problem" is universal.

Here's what I think is going on. Microsoft, being the vanguard promoter of capitalism that it is, most likely engineers "compatibilities" into it's product that promote commerce. Things that happen behind the scenes that the casual user is never even aware of. But which allow certain things to be exploited in "non-harmful" ways.

I sure am not having the problem that many of you seem to be having constantly.

Another example of this "non-harmful exploitation" that I'm talking about, is the way Microsoft's antivirus programs  are set up to explicitly ignore certain types of prying by well known commercial products, that other, independent AV programs  single out as Ad ware, or malware.

I'm sure that Microsoft views such lapses as being a "good steward" to the profitability of the internet, because that's where their prioritie$  are

Flintlock76

Doing a "cookie purge" is a good start.  If the problem persists call Kalmbach Customer Service.  I had to do so last year, nice folks, and trust me, you won't be the first calling them with this kind of problem.

Just curious, (Wayne) Flintlock 76  Sigh   Was that 'before or after'; IT 'broke'   your Firelock 76  ????   I am afraid to take the time to call the IT gremlins, for fear that I will loose my historical identity around here....Last time I called them, IT Gremlins; my name disappeared on the front page of the Forum, uopon signing in,  and now I have to re-log in on page changes to Newswire pages....

OH, Yeah, P.S.  Just re-upped my subscriptions to CT, and now their mail address is Big Sandy, Tx....  I guess they mounted their Harley's and rode south??Mischief

Doesn't seem to matter which browser is used.  I can't log-out at all without clearning all cookies (which I do as a matter of course every evening when I shut down my computer, I don't mind loggin-in each day, but having to log-in to each Kalmbach server is less than an ideal customer experience).

I also have to log-in again when I go directly to the Rochelle webcam using the link in the forum banner at the top.

Both of these "problems" seen to have started early last month, people complained on the forum, it got fixed, and then came back as a more permanent 'feature'.

And the 'problems' with the log-in sub window.  It does not come up with the User ID box preselected so I can just start typing instead of having to click on that text box first, is another irritation.  And hitting "Enter" when in the User ID textbox not taking me to the Password textbox is also a disturbance to the easy flow of loggin-in.  I have to click on the Password textbox (I have found that typing the "Tab" character will move the focus to the Password textbox)  In addition, hitting "Enter" when in the Password textbox does not automatically click the Log-in button.  I have found that hitting "Tab" twice will move the focus to the Log-in button to allow 'Enter' to work there.  But all this having to switch from the mouse to the keyboard and back to the mouse is not a way to do things.  The Log-in sub window looks exactly like many other web forum Log-in sub windows, but does not work like the others.

Just a poor customer experience all around.

Oh, and that banner being "live" all the time, such that if the mouse gets near it, it drops down the menus is also an irritation... once the menu drops down, I have to move the mouse completely away from it so the drop down will go away and I can read/click on what it overlayed.

A wonderful forum, but severely lacking in customer experience niceties.

It's even worse on an Android device.

This is not abnormal behavior for the current Kalmbach Web presence.  I believe we are now up to four separate login engines, which share the customer database information (including set and changed passwords) and some but not all the profile preferences.  All you can do about it is keep logging in and setting the corresponding distinct session cookies, each of which may persist across sessions and cause a loading mismatch if not explicitly deleted individually in the client.

We live in hope that all this will be fixed in the 'new web experience'.  Which is beginning to sound more and more like Dodgson's jam.

Log In, Then Log In again

Windows 10 Pro, version 1909, Firefox 80.x

Don't know when this started: I log into the forum, read news, but to read blogs and forums, have to log in again. I have also been having problems logging off, having to remove cookies first; this had been fix recently but then recurred; it may be connected to being logged in twice. I will experiment with logging off in forums, to see what happens.

For the first time, while logged on twice here, I had to log on to Classic Trains. I could not log off of any of the three separate logons, which I will do after posting this by deleting all related cookies.
