Juniata Man Having just been to the curve in the past three weeks; I'm struck by how nice the paint looks on the GP9 in the video. If the Railroader's Memorial Museum doesn't get that engine cleaned up and repainted soon, there will be nothing left but a pile of rust inside the fence.
The locomotive should be removed. It is an eyesore that mares the beauty of the area. What is even worse, it is a step child substitute for the K-4 that was parked there in the 1950s but subsequently removed.
In too many instances historical railroad equipment has been placed in parks, musems, etc. without any thought as to how it will be maintained. This is just one more example.

Great! I grew up in Altoona and spent many hours at the curve watching trains. That part of Pennsylvania is beautiful, especially in the fall when the leaves change their color.
Talk about a step back in time for some of us!

We found a old archive of 12 year old footage from a trip too Horseshoe Curve back in 2008. We visit the curve and you will also see a few scenes from downtown! Hope you all enjoy!
