V - J Day

I had my flag out all day today but probably not one person in a hundred knew the reason.  That's another way for one to know one's getting old.

My mother used to describe what Cleveland was like that day, how one heard all the church bells (real ones, not amplified recordings) ringing, cars honking etc.

In honor of the United States on maybe its most glorious day ever...August 14, 1945:  Victory over Japan Day:

WOW, and Mark Fidrych was born on this day in 1954, as well. And to think, Ruth Bader Ginsberg was alive for both.

A sad, short life for someone who was a decent human being who brought so much joy to Detroit Tigers fans for a short while.

What a shame President Roosevelt didn't live to see that day, especially after what the Japanese did to "his" navy at Pearl Harbor.

He did love the fleet after all.
