I have a cousin who lives next to the CSX Monon Subdivision in Dyer, Indiana. In the last month he has observed a significant increase in freight traffic, and he asked me if I might know the reason for that. I did some Googling but didn't find anything about derailments, new trackage rights arrangements, etc. that could be the cause of the traffic increase. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is occurring? Thanks in advance.
One additional train each way has been added to the Monon.
An "expensive model collector"
The Monon" from Louisville,KY to "BEDFORD, IND" is pretty much out of service. There are 'tree's' growing, and the siding in "Salem, In." has been taken out. I believe someone said there hasn't been a train through here in over 10 yrs.
The last thru-freights to use the Monon (CSX's Hoosier Sub) south of Bedford ran in summer 2010, and actually it was Indiana Rail Road traffic using trackage rights, and except for car storage it's been dormant; I'm surprised it's still in place at all. But this thread is about the north end. Can anybody share what traffic is running on the Monon Sub these days? Is Q642/643 still running from Avon to Barr? (Or somewhere else now?) Anybody who can share the lineup and O/D pairs, thank you in advance ...
Road trains are Q641, Barr to Avon. Q642 Avon to BRC Clearing. Q503 BRC Clearing to Nashville and Q500 Nashville to Barr. All trains block swap at Lafayette.
