In the BNSF's roster there are some GP 53 ex BN. Are they improved GP 50 in the performances and the power of the engine? Is there someone in a position to helping me?
Thank's in advance.

I defer to anyone with first hand knowledge but BN derated some or all of their GP50 fleet to 3000HP.This was due to reliability issues with the 645F engine. I guess this is where the "GP53" designation is derived. I've never seen a roster which used that model number.

I have seen "GP53" designation in the roster in web site www.BNSFpix.com and I have thought that BNSF could be ritarate locomotives. Sincerely I didn't read never this designation. In my copy of "The contemporary diesel spotters's guide" (Kalmach edition) I didn't have found nothing on these locomotives.
I have thought, then, that these modifications were recent.
However thanks for your answer.

They owned 53 of them. Maybe that's it...
