The On-Demand, Autonomous and Electric Disruption of Transportation
Posted by Centaur on Sunday, February 2, 2020 1:15 PM

Below is a YouTube video of a presentation regarding “Disruption of Transportation” for the 2020 North Carolina Department of Transportation Summit.

It may be of especial interest here, since at one point the speaker discussess how caravans of autonomous electric semi-trucks could replace railroads.

"We" cannot even get PTC to work on fixed train tracks, and "they" are expected to get those truck caravans to operate smoothly?

If GM "killed the electric car", what am I doing standing next to an EV-1, a half a block from the WSOR tracks?

An who can forget how the High Speed Rail Plan in the ARRA ("Stimulus" bill) was replaced by the much lower-cost High Speech Bus Plan, where cost-effective meal service was to be provided by allowing the lunch-wagon guy to board the bus to sell food?

Problem with electric semis is batteries and charging thereof. Fast charging requires a lot of power which effectivey means that the charging stations need to have some hefty energy storage system to meet peak demand.

<squeezes eyes shut>  ... I do believe in electricity fairies, I DO believe in electricity fairies...

Is Tinker getting better yet?  I'd be interested in seeing the NC guy's take on supply to all those proposed class 8 truck megachargers ...

What's Tinker?  Is that the site encouraging persons in same-sex relationships to cheat on their partner by dating someone of the opposite sex?

And was Founding Father James Madison's wife really named Ashley?

James Madison's wife was Dolley Payne Todd.

Paul was obviously joking.  Lil Jimmie's mom was Nelly,  perhaps more fitting for her son.

Hint: it's in Peter Pan.  (I thought everyone knew that trope...)

I think she goes by T.B. Kilowatt now that she's married and found a new professional career.

First thing I thought of was Bert Lahr...

"I do believe in spooks! I do believe in spooks! I do, I do, I do, I do, I DO believe in spooks!"

Then I saw "Tinker."  "Oh yeaaaahhhhh...."
