I see that the hoboing thread, and a politically-charged thread in Passenger, have been removed.

Good for the Kalmbach moderators! Yes Yes

Still in training.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos!

I think someone must have reported Raymond's latest attempt to discuss 'riding the rods'.  There was also a obvious spam/clickbait/advertising post that appeared last night.  I reported that one just before going to bed, and it was gone when I woke up this morning.  Most of us probably never saw that one.

Lately the mods seem to have been leaving this place alone, apart from when someone goes to the trouble of reporting something to them.

Either someone finally clicked the "!" icon to report the thread(s) or the moderator that has the ability to delete a thread got over a flu/vacation/leave/trip and came back to work, saw the threads and performed their duty.

Usually when this happens, the moderators are criticized.

Just the opposite, we should thank them.  I am on several other forums that are not moderated, and they have become nearly unreadable cesspools.

Thank you, moderators.

If the rule was made to stop the possible attractiveness and encouragement of riding illegally, then merely locking the thread does no good.

Eliminating it does even less good!

It stops some person from happening upon the thread, reading the posts, finding encouragement to try it, getting arrested or hurt, and blaming Kalmbach.

Like grafitti, the problem is less the subject than the figurative fist fights that break out over it.

It also does no good when, some years back, they had a two page photo spread about such activity and/or other forms of trespass in the magazine.  While it was tried to be portrayed as not something to be done, I think the photos viewed by most young people would have induced them to try said behavior rather than avoid it.

It just seemed somewhat, oh heck, completely hypocritical at the time.

I'd agree that that may seem wrong.

Of course, the young person thinking of riding the rails could easily happen upon the online posts, but would have to buy a magazine and read the story for the same effect.

I guess my whole point is that Kalmbach has rules.  The forum is free.  No one is required to read it.  The rules were broken, and Kalmbach acted by removing the offending thread.  I don't see any issue with this.

That one probably didn't get reported.  Until now.

I don't recommend clicking on the link.  Could be something nasty hidden in there, considering Raymond/Dave's past, and idea of ethics.

i don't have a problem deleting posts that would seem to grandise hoboing, but, I do have a big problem with deleting something with just the mention of the word Hobo or their past history!

BigJim, in general I'd agree.

But the thread title said something about a "railfan's guide." I took the safe route of not clicking on the link (despite being extremely curious), but from the thread title, it would seem that there might be content about how hoboing is fun.

I have to admit that from about age 18 to 40, I had a serious fantasy about hopping a train, just for the adventure. Just do it one time. (I never fantasized about adopting a hobo lifestle.) I figured I knew enough about trains to be safe; but of course, I would have had no idea which human beings I might encounter. I really thought I'd do it someday. But that desire passed, which was good. It's very dangerous on many levels.

Seems the "Blame Canada" thread got the kibosh as well. Tis a pity as there was some pretty good natured cross border ribbing going on in that hread. My mistake, wrong section...

Why would that get banned?  We're not even a real country according to the song!

Oh brother, "South Park!"  Talk about people who've raised the "sick joke" to a high art form!

Although giving credit where credit is due, they've done a good job skewering people across the political spectrum, left and right, who need a good skewering from time to time.
