Dang son, it's not easy to take contemporary "see-it-every-day-so-what's-the-big-deal" railroading and make it interesting, but  you  just hit it out of the park with those shots!

Was it two trains with one being deadheaded or was the locomotive dead in tow?

The previous day's southbound from Montreal was canceled because the engine died, so the previous day's northbound when up with two engines to pull the dead trainset back down. So there were two working engines in the front, and the one midtrain was dead. Video here:
