History on Keddie Wye and Yard, Keddie to Bieber was called the Northline, Northern Calif Connection or NCE, Highline all of the above. Trains were switched at Stockton Calif Yard and originally had a crew change point at Oroville and run to Keddie Yard. Keddie was a switching point for the northline trains and a power and crew change point. West bound trains would set out at Keddie and Keddie Yard switch crew would build the final train with cars from Stockton and the West bound set outs. Fresh Crews and power would be put on in the yard. Their departure would be from the yard tracks onto what was called the NCE lead which ran from the yard through the tunnel and connect to the northline to Bieber at the top end of the Keddie Wye. ie., fresh crew and power Keddie to Bieber. If the connection out of Stockton was full on tonnage it would come out of the tunnel and move left over the NCE leg of the wye and stop at the switch that connected to Keddie Yard NCE lead out of the tunnel from the yard so fresh power and crew could come out of the yard and change power and proceed. Years later Keddie switch and crew and power change point was elimnated and all ran through to Bieber. Everything was under TCS control to Greenville and later to Almanor then changed over to Train Order between there and Bieber. Such was the old days on the Western Pacific RR.
