Does anyone know why there were two overhead wires on the CNS&M's southbound, but not the northbound track through North Chicago Jct?
Probably for operational reasons. North Chicago Junction was a four-way junction with North Shore's "major" yard nearby, so the wire was placed that way to lessen problems with trolley shoes when running against the flow on the southbound track and to minimize elaborate fixtures in the trolley wire for switches.
