GraniteRailroader I'm curious as to what the mess was in the yard there? The yard is actually bare and empty. Wait until it's 20 below, in January, and you've got 40 tanks sitting on 6, 7, and 8, that have to be shuffled around to get the empties out and hen pick the oldest cars of each product type into their specific rack position. The runner is empty, so either they haven't pulled Global Fuels yet, or the BDRD job already left. That yard job used to be great, but the night switcher to Brandon was where the money was at. I watched the other VTR Burlington Video you have, there is no "passing track" in the yard, or main track even. There's the running track (closest to the water, connects at the top of the hill and proceeds to the crossing on the south end of the yard, and then Tracks 1 through 8 for "yard tracks". The third track away from the waterfront that proceeds up the hill was just called the "long track" and was used for storage of ballast cars and other misc. cars in long term storage.

I missed the bit about the main/running track, I railfan and model mainlines.
I don't know much about Burlington and VTR, but I am guessing that the long line of cars was an inbound train, and the yard crew was still making up or sorting another train. I probibly didn't help that they were getting ready for the first passenger train/dinning train of the year. We had to move our car so they could get a food delivery.
