train length restriction on BC Rail
Posted by Ulrich on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 12:44 PM

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that CN train length is restricted on BC Rail trackage. Would anyone know the details? i.e. number of cars.. train length in feet.. and of course why..

I don't know - I do know when CN originally took over BCOL they had a number of derailments as CN had eliminated all the BCOL train handling rules and restrictions.  CN relearned why BCOL had the rules and restrictions in the first place.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Why is obvious. It is a mountain railroad with steep grades and sharp curves. You must limit both buff and draft forces in a train if you want to not break couplers and drawbars going up hill and keep the train on the track both up and down hill.

Details will be in appropriate Employeee Timetable.
