Interesting that this involves relatively short domestic lanes, esp. from Denver.

Do we care about the potential effect of this on the revived "X train" between LA and Las Vegas?

I do not care!

(The photo is of BN/BNSF's Denver Intermodal facility [Rennick Yard/CB&Q], not UP's)

I would not be surprised if this involves routing most Denver-SLC freight via Sherman Hill and the intermodal is handled in blocks of cars on those long trains, with the blocks for Denver-LA being picked up in SLC by other intermodal trains coming from Chicago.

Already coming Denver Pacific, block swapping in Cheyenne. Nothing new - just more of it. At some point, Uncle Pete is going to have invest in a REAL intermodal facility for Denver.

Well, that would make good sense.

I'm puzzled. Is 'Denver Pacific' a new short line? UP Denver - SLC traffic will use the 'Harriman line' (main 3) and bypass Cheyenne.

Increasing SLC to Los Angeles service will be interesting to watch. Intermodals will have to be <9000 ft since there is almost no place for longer freights to pass; the eastern end of the Caliente sub is mostly ~6000 ft sidings. Meadow Valley wash is a photographers dream though. Back in the dark ages there was talk of double tracking the (slow) Cima grade between LV and Daggett, no action AFAIK.

Denver Pacific (Cheyenne- Denver) is who built the line and what it is still commonly referred to as. Same goes for Kansas Pacific (Kansas City-Denver).

I have a question: will this new service go into Cheyenne, or will it use the Borie Cutoff?

Also, non-related, how much WB traffic uses track 3 and how much uses track 1 or 2?
